The word "Neptune" is derived from Roman mythology meaning "God of the sea." (Closely related to Poseidon). It is the 8th planet from the Sun, making it the planet which is furthest away from the Sun in our solar system (30.1 AU). It is 17 times the mass of Earth and has 13 known moons. Neptune is the 4th largest planet in or solar system. It was discovered on september 23, 1846. It is measured 14 times the size of earth.
